On February 4, 2022, the first steam turbine generator started up at Uzbekistan GTL Plant to start its own power generation. The event was attended by Mekhriddin Abdullayev, Chairman of the Board of Uzbekneftegaz JSC.
Upon start-up of the power generation unit with a total output of up to 90 MW, in the coming days, the GTL Plant will start power generation not only for its operation needs, but also for supply of up to 45 MW of extra power to the country’s national power grid.
Additional power output will provide electricity to Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex, Shurtan oil and gas production Directorate, as well as other industrial and social facilities, including residential buildings and business entities.
As part of the visit of the Task Group of Uzbekneftegaz JSC, the Chairman of the Board instructed to study possibility of connecting key oil and gas enterprises, including compressor stations installed at the gas fields, to a single autonomous network based on the electricity generated by the GTL Plant.
This decision will be implemented as part of execution of instructions of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to improve stability of energy system and uninterrupted supply of off-grid power to key production facilities, primarily oil and gas production facilities.
It should be noted that the off-grid power generation by the GTL Plant is environmentally friendly and uses excess steam generated during the production process. In total, the GTL Plant has two steam turbine generators that can generate up to 90 MW of power.
